Windows has CombineZM, which is free focus stacking software, but the two solutions I found out there for the Mac are not free, and I don't wanna pay for software that I won't use that often yet.
Soooooooooo, I was wondering if anybody knew if there was a way to do focus stacking on Mac OS X, any free software that I don't know about? Or even better, does anybody know how to do it in photoshop (I have CS3)?

Don't know how well it works though. I'll have to try it later. The Photoshop question is still out there though!

Dont know about any software for the Mac, but it can be done manually in CS3 using the healing brush tool.
I havent done it many times so i probbaly wouldnt explain it very well. Basically you open up all the images from the stack, select one and using the healing brush tool, clone the in focus parts from the other images in the stack onto the one you selected.
LordV will probably be able to explain it better.

Think you've got the only free solutions I know of. Think that link is a plugin for ImageJ ?
I know some people do stacks using layers in PS but I find it easier just to use the healing brush tool.

I'm not certain if this application would work for you, but it is free and is used in stacking astrophotos..

I use the Helicon software, not expensive and I think there is a free trial version.

I use Combinez5 on my mac. Its pretty cool.

so you must be running Windows on your Mac? I presume that means more risk from virus attacks.

Yes. Im running windows on it. I dont have a need to use the internet on it and has a decent firewall installed. Hopefully thats enough to keep the virus out.

Thats because even the lamest script kiddie wouldn't waste their time writing a virus for a computer operating system with at best 15% market share. And that is 4x what it was before people were able to do precisely what Fernando is doing.
IMHO of course

Download adobe flash player. Apple has recently joined this group and has just announced that once macOS Sierra comes, Flash Player will be disabled by default in Safari. According to the IT giant, those who will use the company's upcoming operating system, macOS, will see a pop-up window telling them that they need to install Adobe's product before accessing Flash content on Safari. Go to the Apple menu and click System Preferences. In the bottom left corner, choose Flash Player. Choose the Updates tab. Click the Check Now button. If an update is available, click Yes to update. If no updates are available, you have the latest version of a Flash Player for Mac installed. To continue viewing Flash content, update to a later version of Adobe Flash Player: Click the Download Flash button. Safari opens the Adobe Flash Player page on the Adobe website. Follow the instructions on the Adobe website to download and install the latest version of the plug-in. By default, the installer package will be downloaded to your “Downloads” folder. Select the file on your Mac and double click to install it. Select “Allow Adobe to install updates (recommended)” and click “DONE” to complete the installation. If you installed Adobe Flash Player.

I use Macs too although I have an old Compaq downstairs .
Keith's Image stacker (only mac) only uses FITS format images. I have tried it and it is pretty complex so much so I have not figured out how to use it . Like many authors , they don't know how to explain the stuff in simple language ( and there is a tutorial but it does not help).
Same with NIH, imageJ .
I have done some RGB work with photoshop and at least I have gotten some results although not as good as I have wanted.
